Searching Files on Windows Vista

You may have many files and folders on harddisk, so that you sometimes forget the location of certain files which you want to edit. Then you need the search program to find it.

To search certain files:

1. Open the search program, by pressing WINDOWS key + F on keyboard.

2. Click the down arrow, next to Advanced Search Text.



3. Choose the location (drive or folder) where you will search the files in.



4. Type the name of the file you are searching. If you don't remember its full name, you may type only part of its name which you remember. You can also use Boolean filters facilities in searching files.

Here are some common uses of Boolean logical operation:

AND
Search sample: duty AND work
Result: Files with names which contain both words duty and work (even if those words are not right next to each other).

OR
Search sample: blog OR web
Result: Files with names which contain either of the words tropicalisland, or both.

NOT
Search sample: radio NOT tv
Result: Files with names which contain the word radio, but not tv.

Quotes
Search sample: "good kids"
Result: Files with names which contain the exact phrase good kids.



5. You may decide other search criteria, such as type, size, date, etc.



6. And next, to perform the searching, click the Search button. Then, the results will appear soon.
