Learn Vista - Managing Startup Programs

Startup programs are programs that run automatically when Windows starts. However, if too many programs run on startup, it can make your Windows starts slowly. Moreover not all of the programs are necessary enough, and if one or more programs are broken or missing, then you'll get error messages when Windows is starting. Therefore you need a tool that can manage them. Windows Defender has a facility for that. By using Windows Defender, you can view all programs on startup, as well as disabling, enabling, or even removing them.

To manage startup programs:

- Open Windows Defender. (Click Start > All Programs > Windows Defender).

- Click Tools, and then click Software Explorer.

- For the Category, choose Startup Programs.

- On the list, you'll see all the startup programs. By clicking an item, you'll see the explanation on the right pane.

- If you want to enable, disable, or remove an item, just click the item from the list, and then click Enable button, Disable button, or Remove button.

Warning: Be carefull if you want to disable or remove a program from startup. Make sure that you don't disable or remove the important programs such as antivirus program or else.
