Learn Vista - Managing Your Digital Media Using Windows Media Player

If you have many digital media files (music, videos, recorded tv, etc), Windows Media Player 11 has a facility to manage all of them namely by using WMP library playlist which can classify items easily.

To create a playlist:

1. On Windows Media Player 11 window, click the down-arrow below Library tab, and then click Create Playlist.




2. On List pane, type the title/name for the playlist. Then press ENTER.

3. Now, it's time to add media files (music, videos, etc) into playlist. Please open Windows Explorer (press WINDOWS + E ), then locate media files you want to add into playlist, then select them, and then drag them to the List pane of Windows Media Player.

4. Click Save Playlist button at bottom of Details pane to save the playlist.




5. The playlist you've just created will be shown on the Navigation pane under Playlists text.




6. To play them, just double-click a file/item on the List pane.





To Show files in a playlist and play them

To see media files in particular playlist, just click it in Navigation pane, then all files in playlist will be shown on Details pane. Just double-click one to play it.





To Add, Remove, or Change Order of Files in a Playlist

In order to edit items in the playlist (add, remove, and change order), first you must show the playlist on the List pane.

1. Right-click a playlist which you want to edit from Navigation pane, then click Edit in List Pane.




2. On the List pane, you can edit the list.

- To add a file (music, videos, etc) into list, open Windows Explorer, locate your files, and drag them into the List pane of Windows Media Player.
- To remove a file from the list, or to move it up or down, right-click a file from the List pane, then choose your action, whether Remove from List, Move Up, or Move Down.

After editing the list, click Save Playlist to store the list.
