Prevent Windows Messenger from Starting Automatically

By default, Windows Messenger starts automatically when Windows XP starts. For several people, this annoys so much. Well, actually you can easily change this behaviour, which means to prevent messenger from starting automatically.

To prevent Windows Messengger runs automatically (for Windows XP Home Edition user):

- Start Windows Messenger.

- Click Tools > Options.

- Click the Preferences tab.

- Clear the Run This Program When Windows Starts check box.

- Click OK button.


To prevent Windows Messegnger runs automatically (for Windows XP Professional Edition user):

- Click Start button, and then click Run.

- Type gpedit.msc and then press ENTER.

- On the left tree list, select Local Computer PolicyComputer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows ComponentsWindows Messenger.

- Double-click Do Not Allow Windows Messenger To Be Run, and select Enabled.

- Click OK button.

- Close the Group Policy window.

You will see the result after restarting your computer.
