Saving Harddisk Space by Disabling The Hibernate Feature

Hibernate is one of shut down options, that functions to put your PC into a power-saving state by saving your work to your hard disk so that you can safely turn off your mobile PC. You can see the Hibernate button from the Start menu:


If you disable this feature, you can save your harddisk (drive C) space by the a mount of  your RAM capacity. So if you are using 1 GB of RAM, then by disabling the Hibernate feature, you will save your disk (Drive C) up to 1 GB.

To disable/enable the Hibernate feature on Windows Vista:

- Open the Command Prompt window. (Click Start > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt).

- type powercfg -h off and then press ENTER. (This will disable the Hibernate feature). Now your Drive C free space increases in size.


If you want to re-enable the Hibernate feature, type powercfg -h on and then press ENTER from the Command Prompt window.

To exit from the Command Prompt window, just type exit and then press ENTER.
