When you try to log on to Windows, you need to enter your account password. But what will happen if you forget it? You have to reset it by using a password reset disk or by using administator account. If you want to use a password reset disk, you have to make it first. The reset disk can be a USB storage disk or a CD. In this tutorial, we learn how to make a password reset disk and how to reset Windows password using the reset disk and using administrator account.
To Create a Password Reset Disk:
- Insert your disk or USB storage device into your computer.
- Open Control Panel. (Click Start menu, then click Control Panel).
- In Control Panel, click User Accounts and Family Safety, and then click User Accounts. Then click Create a password reset disk on the left pane.
- Then you'll be directed to a wizard to make a password reset disk. Just follow all instructions.
To Reset Windows Password Using a Password Reset Disk:
- When you log on to Windows, type any text within password textbox (For example: "abc"), then you'll get a message tells you that the password is incorrect. Just click the OK button.
- Insert your password reset disk into your computer. Wait for about 10 - 15 seconds to let Windows Vista detects your disk.
- Then click Reset password below the password textbox. You'll be directed to a wizard window, just follow all the instructions until finish. During the wizard process, you'll be asked to enter your new password that will replace your old password which you forgot. You must remember your new password.
- After completing the wizard, then retype your new password within the password textbox, and then press ENTER.
To Reset Windows Password Using an Administrator Account:
- Start your computer and log on using administrator account.
- Open Control Panel. (Click Start menu, then click Control Panel).
- In Control Panel, click Add or remove user accounts. Then click the account that you want to reset (remove) its password.
- Next, click Remove the password. And then click Remove Password button.
- Okey, now the account has no password.
