Learn Vista - Organizing Pictures in Windows Photo Gallery

If you have many pictures and photos, Windows Photo Gallery can assist you organizing them. On the left pane, it exists navigation tree which consists of filters for arranging and clasifying your pictures based on tag, date, folder, and rating.

Tag

A tag is similar to topic, label, or group name, which gives marks to a picture. Every picture may have more than one tag. By attaching a tag on a picture, so you'll be easier to classify your pictures.




Adding / Renaming / Deleting Tags:

1. Click a picture on thumbnail list.
2. Now, observe the detail pane (right pane). If the detail pane is not visible, then click Info button on menubar/toolbar to make it shows.

On the detail pane, in order to add tags on a picture, click Add Tags text, then type the tag for the picture, then press ENTER. You may give more than one tags for every picture. After adding a tag, it will appears automatically on the tags list on the left pane.




In order to change a tag name, click a tag on the left pane, then right-click it, and then click Rename. Next, type the new name for the tag, then press ENTER. Please note, if you rename a tag, you'll rename the tags of all pictures which have that tag.




In order to delete a tag, click a tag which you want to remove, then right-click it, and then click Delete. Click Yes button on confirmation window. Pay attention: deleting a tag means you'll delete that tag from all pictures which have it.




Date


Every pictures must have its creation/modification date. If you covet to see pictures with particular date, just click the Date Taken part on navigation tree, then click the date you wish to see.




To change the date of a picture:
1. Click a picture.
2. On detail pane, click the date text, then change the date. Finish it by pressing ENTER.




Folder

Every time you add/include a folder into Windows Photo Gallery, so the folder will appears under Folder section at left pane.

Rating

Windows Photo Gallery make you possible to give a rating to a picture. It helps you classify which pictures are important or most seen. To rate a picture:
1. Click a picture.
2. On detail pane, click the star to give a rating to that picture.




3. If you desire to remove the rating of a picture, right-click the star, then click Clear Rating.



Besides classifying pictures, you can also perform actions to a picture such as copy/paste, rename, delete, and set as wallpaper right on Windows Photo Gallery.

Copy/paste
You can copy a picture and paste it into other folder, tag, date, or rating. The steps are easy enough, just click a picture, then right-click it, and then click Copy. Next, on the left pane (navigation tree), click one of the tags, folders, dates, or ratings, then right-click an empty area on thumbnail list, and then click Paste.

Rename
To rename a picture:
1. Click/select one or some pictures.
2. Then click the text of the picture name on detail pane, then type the new name for the picture, then press ENTER.

If you change more than one picture concurrently, thus all the pictures will have the same name followed with serial number.

Delete
To delete a picture:
1. Click one or more pictures which you want to delete
2. Click Delete button on keyboard. Or right-click it and then click Delete.
3. On confirmation window, click Yes button..

Set As Wallpaper (Desktop Background)
In order to set a picture as wallpaper, right-click a picture on thumbnail list, then click Set as Desktop Background.
