Where Can I Manage Startup and Services Programs?

Startup and Services programs are programs that run when Windows is starting. If  too many programs run in startup or services, it can make your Windows Vista loads slower. Another case, you may get error messages about programs failure or missing links when Windows starts. If you get problems like those, one of ways for you to try solving them, is by managing (disable/enable) your startup or services programs.

But where to manage startup and services programs? You can do it from Windows Defender, Sevices Tool, or System Configuration Tool. Let's learn using them one by one.

- To start, stop, pause, resume, or restart a service, right-click it and then click the actions you want to perform. Or you can choose Properties to view the detail about the service.

System Configuration tool

If Windows Defender allows you to configure startup programs and Services tool allows you to configure services programs, System Configuration tool allows you to configure both startup and services programs. To use it, please follow these instructions:

- Open System Configuration. (Click Start menu, then type msconfig, and then press ENTER).

- To configure startup programs, click the Startup tab. There you'll see list of startup programs. Selected items means they run on startup. To disable an item, just clear the check box. But in order to enable an item, select the check box related to the item.

- To configure services programs, click the Services tab. There you'll see list of services programs. To disable a service, clear the check box, and to enable it, just select the check box for the service. For safer selection, select the Hide all Microsoft services check box to display all services besides Windows default ones.
