Windows Vista enables you to display a web content - which is called Active Desktop - on your desktop. This is an interesting feature, because you can show web page which provides periodic updated information such as news tickers, stock, forex, weather forecast, and so on, directly on your desktop. Surely your computer must be connected to internet to get such information. But however Active Desktop can also access the local HTML document on your computer, as well as web content from your local network.
To display web content on the desktop:
- Right-click a blank spot on the desktop background, and then click Properties.
- In the Display Properties dialog box, click Desktop tab.
- Click Customize Desktop.
- In the Desktop Items dialog box, click the Web tab. Then click New.
- In the New Desktop Item dialog box, inside the Location text box, type the URL of a web page that you wish to display its content on your desktop. If you want to use a web content gallery provided by Microsoft, just click the Visist Gallery button, and then choose content you like. You can also use a local HTML document/picture, by clicking Browse button and then locate and select your document/picture.
- Next, click OK button.
- After that, you will get a confirmation dialog, click the Customize button to specify the schedule for updating the content. When everything is done, simply click OK button to start the Active Desktop.
