Modifying Windows XP Visual Effects

Visual effects on Windows XP determines greatly the beauty of your XP appearance and performance. Elements included in Visual effect componenets among other things window animation while minimizing and maximizing, menu and pointer shadows, and so on. All the effects depend on the capability of your computer hardware. If you're using a slower computer, it would be better to not force applying all the effects. The other way, with a fast computer, you can enjoy all the effects. Windows XP gives you chances to modify and specify which visual effects components that you wanna use.



To modify Windows XP Visual Effects:

- Click the Start button, and then click Run.

- Type sysdm.cpl and then press ENTER.

- In the System Properties dialog box, click the Advanced tab, and then click the Settings button in the Performance section.

- In the Performance Options dialog box, click the Visual Effects tab.


- There, you will see four option buttons which you can choose:
  • Let Windows Choose What's Best for My Computer : This option lets Windows XP to choose which ones are better to apply based on your computer's hardware capability.
  • Adjust for Best Appearance : This option applies all the visual effects, so your computer will show you the nicest looks.
  • Adjust for Best Performance : This option turns off all the visual effects, so your computer will run faster.
  • Custom Options : This option allows you to choose which visual effects you want to apply. You can choose visual effects components by selecting check boxes inside the list.
- Click OK button.

Other settings that you can change  relating to visual effects, are as follow:

- Right-click a blank spot on desktop background, and then click Properties.

- In the Display Properties dialog box, click the Appearance tab.

- Click the Effects button.

- In the Effects dialog box, all settings in this dialog are related to XP visual effects. So just select any options that you want to apply.



- Finish it by clicking OK button, and then clicking OK button again.
