Learn Vista - Checking and Fixing The Disk For Errors

Windows has an error-checking utility that can check and try to fix your disk for errors. If your harddisk has no errors, surely it will improve the performance of your computer.

To perform disk error-checking:

- Make sure there are no open programs or files from the drive/disk you want to check for errors.

- Click the Start menu, and then click Computer.

- Right-click the drive that you want to check for errors, and then click Properties.

- In Properties window, click Tools tab. Then click the Check Now button.

- In Check Disk window, select the Automatically fix file system errors check box. If you want to check and fix every sector of your disk (thorough scan), select the Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors check box, but it will take much longer to complete.

- Click Start button to start the disk error-checking.

- If you try to check the disk that is in use, you'll be prompted to schedule the disk check for the next time you start your computer.
