Vista Tips - Showing the Hidden Files and Folders in Windows Explorer

By default, Windows Vista hides files and folders with HIDDEN and SYSTEM attributes so that you won't see them while exploring your computer in Windows Explorer. You can actually show all hidden files/folders easily.

To show hidden files and folders:

- Open Windows Explorer (Click Start button, and then click Computer).

-  Click Organize from toolbar, and then click Folder and Search Options.

- In Folder Options dialog box, click the View tab.

- Under Advanced settings, find and select the Show hidden files and folders option. This option is for showing files and folders with HIDDEN attribute. (Note: To hide them back, select the Do not show hidden files and folders option, and then click OK button).

- Still under Advanced settings, find and clear the Hide protected operating system files (Recommended) check box. This option is for showing files and folders with SYSTEM attribute. (Note: To hide them back, select the check box, and then click OK button).

- Click OK button.
